Cybersecurity Services for Australian Business

Practical cybersecurity advice, assessment and training for Australian businesses - from a team that already secures the physical side of your operation.

Cybersecurity Services for Australian Business

Security that covers more than the front door

A camera system, a door controller and a file server are all computers on the same network. Most Australian businesses secure the first two carefully and never look at how either could be reached from the third. Our cybersecurity work starts from that whole picture rather than from a product list, and ends with a plan you can actually work through.

Each engagement is scoped to your business and starts with a conversation, not a quote for something you may not need. See the guide

Where to start

If you are weighing these up, the order below is the one that tends to produce the most improvement for the least spend.

  • 1. Understand where you stand
Start with a cyber security assessment. It identifies the gaps that matter and tells you which of the remaining services are worth your money.
  • 2. Find the known weaknesses
Vulnerability scanning covers the technical half - missing patches, exposed services and weak configuration - and repeats, because the picture changes.
  • 3. Address the human half
Security awareness training deals with what technology cannot stop: a convincing message arriving with a busy person.

Cybersecurity for Australian businesses

Most Australian businesses do not have a security team. They have an IT provider who keeps things running, a handful of systems that have grown up over years, and no clear picture of where the weak points are. That is the gap these services are built for.

We work the same way on the digital side as on the physical: understand the environment first, identify what would actually cause damage, then fix things in the order that reduces the most risk for the least disruption. There is no product being sold at the end of it. An assessment might conclude that your biggest exposure is an unpatched server, a shared password, or staff who have never been shown what a convincing invoice scam looks like.

Because Tensor Security also supplies and installs CCTV, access control and alarm systems, we see how the two sides meet. Cameras, door controllers, intercoms and recorders are networked computers. They sit on your network, they run software that needs updating, and they are frequently the least monitored devices in the building. Treating physical security and cybersecurity as separate problems is how organisations end up with an excellent camera system that is also an open door.

If you are not sure where to begin, an assessment is usually the right first step - it tells you which of the other services you actually need, and in what order.

Cybersecurity questions we are asked most

Do you sell cybersecurity products, or provide services?

Services. Our cybersecurity work is advice, assessment and training rather than a product to add to a cart. Where a piece of software or hardware is genuinely needed, we will say so, but the engagement is the work itself.

Do we need to be a certain size to benefit?

No. The questions change with size - a single-site business has a very different environment to a multi-site organisation - but the value of knowing where you stand does not. Smaller businesses are frequently targeted precisely because they are assumed not to be looking.

How does this work alongside our existing IT provider?

Comfortably, and often better than you would expect. An independent assessment gives your provider a prioritised list they can act on, and gives you an objective view of what has already been done. We are not trying to displace them.

Where should we start if we have never done any of this?

An assessment. Scanning tells you about known technical weaknesses and training addresses staff behaviour, but neither tells you which of your risks matter most. The assessment is what puts the other two in the right order.

Do you look at our cameras and door systems as well?

Yes, and we would encourage it. CCTV recorders, door controllers and intercoms are networked computers running software that needs maintaining. They are often the least monitored devices on a business network, which makes them an attractive way in.

Not sure which of these you need?

Tell us what prompted the enquiry and we will point you at the right starting place - even if that turns out to be nothing at all.
