Choosing the right intercom system

1. Audio or video

An audio intercom is the simpler, cheaper option - a caller presses a button and speaks, and someone inside decides whether to let them in by sound alone. A video intercom, like Aiphone's GT and JO Series, adds a camera at the door station so whoever answers can actually see who is calling - worth the extra cost anywhere identifying the visitor matters.

2. Single door or multi-tenant

A single-door kit, like Aiphone's JO Series, pairs one door station with one or a handful of indoor stations - the right fit for an office or a single-tenancy building. A multi-tenant system, like Aiphone's GT Series, routes a call from one door station to the right apartment or office out of dozens, and needs the building's wiring or network planned around that from the start.

3. Wired or IP

A wired intercom runs its own dedicated cable between door station and indoor stations - simple and reliable, but limited to where that cable already runs. An IP intercom, like Aiphone's IXG Series or Hikvision's 2nd generation range, runs over the building's existing network instead, which is usually cheaper to extend and easier to integrate with an access control system already on the network.

4. Visitor management

A directory board and buzzer is the traditional way a visitor reaches the right tenant, but it needs updating every time someone moves in or out. Teleportivity's QR-code system replaces the panel with a code the visitor scans on their own phone, which calls straight through without a directory to maintain.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need audio or video intercom?

Audio is cheaper and simpler - a caller speaks, and someone decides whether to let them in by voice alone. Video adds a camera at the door station so you can see who is calling, which matters more anywhere unfamiliar visitors are common.

Can I run an intercom over our existing network instead of new cable?

Yes, if you choose an IP intercom like Aiphone's IXG Series or Hikvision's 2nd generation range - they connect over the same network as everything else, which is usually cheaper to extend than running dedicated intercom cable, especially in an existing building.

How does QR-code visitor access work?

A visitor scans a code at the door with their own phone, which calls straight through to the resident or a help desk - no physical panel button or directory board to maintain, and it runs on Teleportivity's own subscription rather than site wiring alone.

Can an intercom integrate with our access control system?

Teleportivity's kits are built to work with Inner Range's Inception and Integriti panels specifically. For other combinations, tell us your existing access control system and intercom and we will confirm what does and doesn't integrate before you order.
